This year’s conference is focusing on Disability Culture and Community Development. We will be examining a variety of different issues faced by people with disabilities in terms of their lived experience both within the post-secondary setting and beyond.

Many of our sessions will grapple with fundamental debates within the disabled community including but not limited to: Communication and Community Development, The Art of Activism, "Our Life Our Community," Allies and Enemies: Can Non-disabled People Affectively Represent the Disabled Community?

This year’s key note speaker is Tanya Titchkosky. Tanya is a Disability Studies Professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, she has also written Disability Self and Society. She will be speaking on Disability Culture and Community Development on December 1st, 2006. She will be laying the foundation for many of the challenging concepts that will be explored during the conference.

Other speakers thus far include: Kay Leslie from Scotia Bank and the Critical Disability Studies program at York, Dr. Rachel Gorman from the Women and Gender Studies Department at the University of Toronto, Rod Michalko Professor of Equity Studies at the University of Toronto…more to come.
