Our annual Breaking Down Barriers Conference brings together students, staff, faculty members, community members, business representatives and others to discuss the numerous barriers experienced by post-secondary students with disabilities.
Our first four conferences dealt with leadership development, organizational planning, and community activism, while expanding our base to include attendees from around the world.
This year we will be presenting a series of debates that will help to define success for people with disabilities in the community, education and employment settings. We will be exploring the question: is success the same for everyone? Statements that will be debated include: post-secondary education is success, employment of any kind is success, self-reliance is success, integration is success.
Debate Questions:
- Is acceptance to post-secondary education success?
- Is any type of employment success?
- Is complete self-reliance success?
- Is total integration success?
JOIN THE DEBATE:
We are currently looking for students, professionals and community members with a strong stance on either side of any of these debate statements to contact us. Please send a CV as well as a 100-250 word written statement outlining which stance you would like to address.
Attendant care, ASL interpretation, and real-time transcription will be available on site. Additional accommodations are available upon request.
